THE SCARRING PARTY, THE VITROLUM REPUBLIC, and WINOVINO (TX)

Scarring_party_small

$10

The end is near for the Scarring Party, who are working on their final album. You'll want to catch them before it's too late, and this is the perfect time to do so as local staples The Vitrolum Republic and Austin band Winovino round out the bill.

The Scarring Party Bio:

Milwaukee quartet the Scarring Party perform tuba, accordion and banjo driven end time music that draws on the influence of 20's and 30's music hall, Lomax folkways recordings and 70's punk. In four years, the quartet have attracted a growing following and shared a stage with a diverse range of acts, including Daniel Johnston, Why?,Tilly & the Wall, the Ditty Bops, Margot & the Nuclear So and So's, and Southern Culture on the Skids.

Though the Scarring Party performances combine low-key showmanship with vaudevillian spectacle, the more confounding part of their aesthetic is the role of typewriters, 40lb cast iron bells, the theremin-howl of mandolins, unorthodox percussion and Daniel Bullock's warbling tenor delivered through the crackling victrola veneer of a hand-built copper microphone. While their sound and aesthetic may recall an age gone by, the Scarring Party's unique voice rests comfortably outside of the confines of any era.

The Vitrolum Republic Bio:

The Milwaukee-based Vitrolum Republic’s sound is a combination of various styles that can best be described as classically infused folk music. Over the course of their first full-length album, For Highbrow Sideshows and Rowboat Serenades, they cover many different styles of music, but all in a way that feels rooted in a style all their own, which they have come to call Gypsy Noir.

Their original compositions blur genres, combining classical elements with singer-songwriter, folk, bluegrass, blues and gypsy tango styling. Their music is diverse, and draws upon the acoustic instrumentation that each member brings to the stage; violin, piano, acoustic guitar, accordion, mandolin, banjo upright bass and a variety of percussion instruments.

Winovino Bio:
From the cobbled streets of Paris (circa 1920) to a dusty wagon train across Romania. From peril on the high seas, to the seedy underbelly of prohibition era cabaret, we've hitched our way across a century and more. We have brought back with us an acoustic revelry of uproarious instrumentals, swooning ballads, and an intoxicating live performance for young and old alike.

SUPERSUCKERS, BEGGARS, & A COUPLE OF COCKSMITHS

Supersuckers_small

$12 adv / $15 door BUY TIX

You've heard our name, you've seen our records, our t-shirts and our stickers. We're probably the favorite band of someone you know and yet maybe we're still a mystery to you. Well my friend, that's okay, you're at the right place to get to know the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world, The Supersuckers.

And the next time you see the 'Supersuckers' name, whether it's in the record store, online somewhere, or on the marquee at your local rock club, know that there's some quality, honest, ass-kicking, hard working individuals behind it all trying to make your life a little better through the "Evil Powers Of Rock-n-Roll" (and the occasional detour into the country music, of course) and we'd love nothing better than to have you there with us as! Just remember to wear clean underwear, because we're gonna rock your pants right off of you."
- Eddie Spaghetti, Rock Guy
The Supersuckers

Beggars: Meet the Good Boys of Rock! They're knocking loudly on your door but they look so cordial. You'll wanna let them in even though you know they'll bring the house down. The Beggars can do rowdy, they can do outrageous and they do all the reckless valiant theatrics of everything you thought you loved most about Rock n' Roll - but the Beggars edge is in their endearment - the swagger of the greats without the sleaze of the stereotype - a pure energy burst from a wholesome (yes, wholesome) love for the legends (and the legacies) of rock.

They cruise with a heavy chugging 70's fuzz style that loopde-loops up like a rocket of spacier psychedelia, only to parachute down into the eye of the party's storm, cool as cucumbers with a soulful swagger of jazzy bass and danceable beats, spurred ever forth by crowd-crazy incitements from a quintessential frontman. The Beggars, good boys that they are, understand that rock is equal parts demolition derby as it is vaudeville theatre, let's have a good time.

They formed in 2003, just north of Detroit, MI, founded by drummer Joe Senac and guitarist Jonny Wilkins, based on a commitment to rock-solid showmanship. Singer (and ProWrestling School drop-out) Steven Tuthill joined in 05, inspired by Wilkins' and Senac's spirited show, inspired by seminal soul/blues-influenced rock n roll.

Wilkins and Tuthill kept the band going as various players of comparably blistering talents and styles came, partied, rocked and rolled on their way, off to join bands like The Electric Six, The Sights. Drummer Jim Faulkner continues to hold the beat down while Pookie Grech provides the soulful, psyche-blues bass grooves under Chris Krez' flavorful guitar firestorms. Wilkins' wields his wailing ax masterfully under the highflying antics of Tuthill, belting the Beggars' anthems with breathless enthusiasm.

A Couple of Cocksmiths: Matty Gonzalez (The Cocksmiths, Alcoholics Unanimous, Kiss Me I'm Sick) and Ryan Daniels (The Cocksmiths, Revolver) do originals and obscure/kick-ass covers in dirty rock n roll, country, and delta blues styles.
