Brusier Queen (StL) w/ Static Eyes, Body Futures
8 pm, 21+, $5
Bruiser Queen is the St. Louis-based collaborative effort of singer/guitarist, Morgan Nusbaum, and drummer Jason Potter. Formed in 2010, the garage rock and roll duo began winning over the Midwest in 2012 with the release of their first full-length album titled Swears, which preceded the highly praised In Your Room 7"/EP in 2013 via Certified PR Records. The title track, "In Your Room," was named "Best Local Single of the Past 12 Months" by the Riverfront Times and was a winner on the 2013 Village Voice Pazz and Jop Singles Chart. Sweet Static's "On The Radio" and "Some Girl's Ghost" were winners in 2014.
In the span of five years, Bruiser Queen has been voted "Best Rock Band" (2015) and "Best Garage Band" (2014) according to the RFT Music Awards Readers Poll, ranked at #36 on the KDHX Top Album Spins of 2012 Chart, and has filled supporting slots for artists including Best Coast, Wanda Jackson, Polyphonic Spree, Ex Hex, Corin Tucker Band, and Those Darlins. They have also featured in music festivals including Middle of the Map, Valley of the Vapors, Mile of Music, and True/False.
Static Eyes was a band. Then their bassist left. Now they have a new bassist. So they are still a band. And a damn good one.
“Body Futures’ members have no shortage of experience: Jacobs was a member of the avant-pop combo White, Wrench, Conservatory, while Hostettler records and tours extensively as drummer for noise-pop combo IfIHadAHiFi. Wojtasiak played with Milwaukee stalwarts Five Mod Four as well as owning and operating No Karma Records, and Maury was a founding member of the well-regarded Everybody at Midnight.
Body Futures formed in the summer of 2012, and spent the following year writing and rehearsing, prior to their live debut in 2013. Plans were immediately set in motion to set their songs down on tape, and, following an agreement with Latest Flame Records, the band entered Milwaukee’s Howl Street Studios with the justly renowned Shane Hochstetler during the soon-to-be-legendary Polar Vortex of 2014 to record what would become “Brand New Silhouettes.”
“Brand New Silhouettes” is scheduled for release on August 12, prior to which Body Futures intend to take to the Midwest highways for a number of live dates. Every genuine music fan should avail themselves of the opportunity to experience their live show, if at all possible. Believe me, you will not regret it.
