You know what's great? When pretty people wear ugly things. And that's why we've celebrated a night where that's been the case for four years running. Our holiday party has been a sweaty, good time provided by an amazing crowd and music by talented acts. In the past four years, PHOX, The Fatty Acids, New Age Narcissism, Sat. Nite Duets, The Living Statues, Soul Low, Surgeons in Heat, and more have played our Ugly Sweater show to packed crowds.
This year's lineup is sure to please, probably the sweatiest yet. Jaill has put out jangly garage-rock albums on Sub Pop and Burger, attracting the praise of The Smiths' Johnny Marr. Nerdist calls Midnight Reruns "timeless guitar music" and "nostalgic but contemporary." an aesthetic that made them a perfect fit to open for The Replacements earlier this year. Like Midnight Reruns, Dogs in Ecstasy recently released a new album; the buzz-pop record Welcome to Hell, out on Juiceboxxx's Thunder Zone label, is a solid candidate for Milwaukee record of the year. Finally, Andi Action, who looks a lot like one of the guys from that Sat. Nite Duets band, will be on emcee duty and kick things off with his sensual solo act.
The above photo is from last year's "Ugliest Sweater in the Best Way" contest. The winner of the contest wins a $25 bar tab and The Sweaty Trophy. Who won last year? A centaur. That's right. A Christmas centaur. Who's going to step up the sweater game another notch this year?
Cover is $5 with a sweater, $8 without. Consider the $3 a Scrooge tax.
